Michelin Guide Names 189 Hotels Across Middle East, Africa and India
Nine properties receive the guide's highest Three Key distinction, with desert resorts, safari lodges and palace hotels among those recognised for immersive stays shaped by their settings.
The MICHELIN Guide has unveiled its 2026 hotel selection for the Middle East, Africa and India, awarding MICHELIN Keys to 189 properties across 11 destinations. The breakdown comprises properties at each tier: the entry-level One Key tier, a middle Two Key category, and the highest Three MICHELIN Keys distinction, according to the guide’s September 18 announcement.
The regional selection reflects a shift in how the guide evaluates hotel experiences. Rather than measuring luxury alone, the 2026 selection recognises properties that create exceptional stays through architecture and design, a distinctive personality, considered service, connection to setting or experiences that draw travellers to a destination.
The Nine Three-Key Properties
Desert Rock Resort in Umluj, Saudi Arabia, receives Three MICHELIN Keys and also wins the MICHELIN Guide Architecture & Design Award for its integration into the Hijaz Mountains landscape. In the United Arab Emirates, Atlantis The Royal in Dubai earns the highest distinction.
Morocco contributes two Three-Key properties: Kasbah Tamadot and La Mamounia, both recognised for reflecting the country’s blend of heritage, landscape and contemporary hospitality. South Africa claims three Three-Key hotels: Royal Malewane, Delaire Graff Estate and Londolozi Game Reserve. The last also earns the MICHELIN Guide Local Gateway Award, highlighting its pioneering approach to safari hospitality and longstanding ties to the Kruger landscape and regional culture.
India’s two palace hotels complete the list: the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad and the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur both achieve Three MICHELIN Keys.
Distribution Across the Region
India leads the selection with 47 MICHELIN Key hotels among the 11 destinations. South Africa accounts for 32 Key hotels, Morocco has 31, and the United Arab Emirates receives 25. Saudi Arabia adds 17 Keys, Egypt 13, and Qatar 11. Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait and Jordan round out the selection with smaller numbers of recognised properties.
A Broader Global Expansion
This regional award sits within the MICHELIN Guide’s second worldwide cycle of MICHELIN Keys, which now encompasses 79 destinations and a total of 2,832 hotels. Nearly 470 hotels earned their first Keys in the 2026 round, with the distinction making its debut in 10 markets this year.

He noted that hoteliers worldwide are reinventing stays through immersive, personalised and experiential concepts, often led by independent operators and supported by investments from major international groups.
Assessment Standards
The three-tier system designates One Key as marking a very special stay, Two Keys as denoting an exceptional stay, and Three Keys as representing an extraordinary stay.
