Itama 70 combines sportiness and comfort in new 21-metre open yacht

The Italian builder unveiled the 21.23-metre Itama 70 at Cannes Yachting Festival as the second model in its brand renewal, pairing twin MAN engines with redesigned deck spaces and a minimalist interior.

Ferretti Group’s Itama brand unveiled the Itama 70 at the Cannes Yachting Festival, positioning the 21.23-metre open yacht as the second model in its ongoing brand renewal.

The design process involved Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee and Engineering Department, with exterior styling by Vallicelli Design and interiors by IdeaeItalia. The two firms reinterpreted Itama’s minimalist aesthetic while introducing contemporary solutions intended to balance sportiness, elegance and comfort.

Deck Design and Entertaining Spaces

The Itama 70 features a reshaped hull-to-deck transition that shifts the line upward to the deck edge, producing a convex profile running from bow to stern. This raises the junction between hull and superstructure, which according to the builder expands deck areas, particularly forward. The exterior also incorporates side windows running along the hull, borrowed from the earlier Itama 54, and a transom angled to match the stem for a dynamic silhouette.

The main deck prioritizes entertaining and relaxation. The stern platform accommodates a 3.25-metre tender and opens to the cockpit via a two-section door—the upper section uses a pantograph hinge while the lower section swings out as a step. A large sun pad, described as an iconic Itama feature, sits at the stern with an integrated backrest that connects it to a U-shaped dining area with a teak-topped table. A wet bar on the starboard side includes a sink and fridge, with optional upgrades to add an ice maker, grill, hob or additional refrigeration. An electric bimini top shades the area and can be outfitted with side panels and aft extensions.

The helm station on the port side seats three and comes standard with two 12-inch SIMRAD touchscreen chartplotters; 16-inch units are optional. A central foredeck reached by convenient steps features a spacious forward sun pad integrated into the deck design, offering panoramic views and maintaining the open-yacht concept.

Lower Deck and Cabins

Below deck, the Itama 70 uses a single floor level throughout to eliminate steps and create uninterrupted movement. Large hull windows incorporating portholes flood the interiors with natural light.

The owner’s cabin sits in the aft section—a positioning more common on larger open yachts—which the builder said optimises space and reduces noise perception. The bed is centrally positioned with port-side access to a private master bathroom. Forward are the galley and interior dinette; the dinette features an L-shaped sofa with storage and an extending table on the starboard side, while a fully equipped corner galley and optional 55-inch wall-mounted television sit opposite. Two guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms complete the layout: a VIP cabin in the bow and a guest cabin on the port side with a queen-size bed and optional pullman bed. The guest cabin bathroom serves as a dayhead via hallway access. On request, a single crew cabin with separate bathroom is available aft, or that space can be converted to storage.

Interior materials include leather and wood, described by the builder as creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Owners can choose between warm date-coloured tones or brighter blue shades.

Propulsion and Performance

The Itama 70 is fitted with twin MAN V12 engines in two configurations. In standard form, the 1,400 horsepower units propel the yacht to 37 knots at top speed and 33 knots at cruising speed. An optional upgrade to twin 1,550 horsepower engines achieves 39 knots maximum and 35 knots cruising, according to preliminary figures from the builder.

Additional technology includes an XENTA electro-hydraulic steering system with optional manoeuvring joystick, XENTA trim tabs and thrusters (stern thrusters optional), and an optional Seakeeper NG14 gyroscopic stabiliser to minimise roll.
